DBS Volunteers Needed

BELOW ARE TWO CORONAVIRUS SUPPORT INITIATIVES THAT NEED OUR HELP

Magpies in the Community and Rightathome – please register if you are DBS checked and you feel that you can help

MAGPIES COMMUNITY CARE INITIATIVE

The Magpies Community Care Initiative will go live on Monday 23rd March and will provide support to the elderly and vulnerable residents in our local community who are unable to leave home whilst in self isolation.  The initiative aims to overcome some of the challenges that these residents will face, and our community DBS checked coaches/volunteers are being asked to undertake tasks such as:

  • Picking up supplies
  • Picking up a prescription
  • Posting a letter
  • Walking the dog

We want to offer a comprehensive support programme accessible via a dedicated hotline which we will have manned 7 days a week from 9am to 5pm.  We think the telephone hotline is important as our focus is to ensure support for the most vulnerable in the community who are less likely to have access to web and social media. We want to protect the safety of the individuals and families who need our support by building a network of trusted volunteers all of which as minimum will hold a valid an up to date DBS. We believe the community sports and wellbeing network is well placed to make a real difference as all coaches, referees etc in this field are DBS checked.

If you believe you can help and are interested in volunteering please contact our Magpies in the Community team by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] or (from Monday) telephone our Magpies Community Care hotline on 01628 367865. Please have the following information available:

  • Name:
  • Details of a valid DBS Certificate
  • Address (to help match you to local tasks)
  • Contact Information
  • E-mail
  • Availability
  • Information on any tasks you would not be able to do

RIGHTATHOME

https://www.rightathomeuk.co.uk/

They supply care workers  to look after the elderly and others in their homes and over the next few months they are going to come under as much pressure as some parts of the NHS as their workers and patients self-isolate leaving them very short handed.

They are looking for volunteers to work with their care workers to complete some of the tasks and need DBS cleared people to do this work.
