Maidenhead RFC well beaten away at Weston-Super-Mare

Weston-Super-Mare RFC 45, Maidenhead RFC 17

Maidenhead succumbed to their 11th away defeat of their South West Premier campaign in losing at Weston-Super-Mare. Their only victories on the road this season have come in the last minute at Bracknell and on the 3G pitch at Hornets.

This final trip and penultimate league match, saw Maids concede seven tries as the hosts led from start to finish.

Weston were ahead 26-5 at half time, having already bagged a bonus point for scoring four tries, while Maids only positive was when George Blewitt dotted down to reduce Weston's early lead to two points. The second half saw Weston go 33-5 in front before Maids finally strung some phases together from which Lewis Jones scored.

Ed Keohane slotted the extras. However, at 33-12, this did not open the door for Maids, indeed it was Weston who scored two more tries to ensure victory, avenging their 70-26 beating at Braywick in December. Alex French crashed over in the corner in the final minutes for the visitors, their third try in another setback away from the comforts of home.

Maids, who remain fourth, complete their campaign at home to fifth-placed Camborne next Saturday. This was the team they began their South West Premier adventure against more than seven months ago, a match they narrowly lost 30-27..
