Beaconsfield 7 v Maidenhead U16 17

Sunday 18th November 2018

2018/19 U16s season

18/11/18

2nd league game of the season away against Beaconsfield on a dry bright slightly cold November morning, 11o/c kick off.

Maidenhead kick off, Beaconsfield catch ball and it through their forwards. Strong tackling from the Maids forwards resulting in a turnover and scrum to Maids. Both teams are working hard in attack and defensive. First lineout to Beaconsfield, Maids compete and almost steal. Play continues with Maids defending strongly. Beaconsfield start pushing over Maids 10 metre line. Beaconsfield second lineout is stolen by Jon but the pressure is still there. Game swings both ways, but Maids tackling continues to be strong and start to put Beaconsfield under pressure and push them into their 22. Beaconsfield start to panic under pressure and Jimmy jumps on a lose ball and carries it over for the first try, conversion missed.

Maids continue to push forward from the re-start countering Beaconsfields attacks with really strong tackling. Maids pressure continues and pushes them back into their 22, with a lovely chip over Beaconsfields rush defensive, the chasing centre, Jamie, catching and scoring Maids second try which he converts. Half time.

Maidenhead 12 Beaconsfield 0

Changes made at half time bring in some fresh legs.

Maidenhead receive the re-start, Beaconsfield up quick and put on some huge pressure. Maids start to give away silly penalties and Oscar gets a yellow card for tackling a player without retreating 10. Maidenhead down to 14 but you wouldnt know as Maids rally and start to put pressure back onto Beaconsfield with some great kicking into to space from Alfie. Maids are now in Beaconsfields half and start to build the pressure on their hosts with them conceding penalties. After a great catch and drive from an attacking lineout Beaconsfield have a player yellow carded for another penalty. Jamie takes the penalty quickly and drives over the line for Maids 3rd try and conversion.

From the re-start Beaconsfield start building pressure, wave after wave and eventually creep into Maids 22. With 5 minutes plus to go Maids absorb constant attacks from Beaconsfield conceding numerous penalties but manage to hold them back. Maids steal a loose ball and try to run out of their 22, but get tackled just on the 22-line resulting in a ruck and the ref blowing up indicating foul play by Maids resulting in a red card. Maids now down to 14 again, Beaconsfield try to build pressure but Maids manage to get a scrum awarded for a knock on. From Maids scrum we fumble the clearance and Beaconsfield eventually cross are line for their fist try, which is converted. Some unwanted words from both side after the try the ref decided to award a penalty re-start to Beaconsfield. With only a few minutes left both teams get involved in some unwanted antics after a ruck and the ref has to step in. No time to re-start, final whistle.

Game summary

Fantastic result, huge effort from the boys, excellent tackling, good game awareness and re-alignment, Great use of kicking, better control with are lineouts, catch and drive worked well.
