The first-time playing Staines in a friendly match away, 11:00 kick off on a sunny but slightly chilly, windy morning. 


Maidenhead get the first half started pressing up hard and forcing Staines into handling errors allowing Maids to push up with a great carry from Freddie DT, linking up with other forwards and then the backs resulting in the first try scored by Jimmy and converted by Jamie. From the restart Maids gather and build another attack, Toby carrying well breaking over the gain line, several plays later are awarded a lineout within Staines 22 which we catch and drive, peeling away for Callum to score. Conversion missed. Again, from the restart Maids gather the ball well and build another attack, lovely break from Freddie F and finished off with Jimmy crossing the try line, missed conversion. Maids gather the restart, Andrey sets of on a diagonal run, using the players around him as support, Staines hold the attack, and are awarded a penalty. Staines tap and go, Maids defend well on the halfway line, turn ball over and kick the ball through and chase resulting in Jamie scoring and converting his own try. Good catch and drive from Cameron at the restart, passing onto Andrey who sets off on a strong run and tackled, Maids slow to react allowing Staines attack the ball, Maids give away a penalty for holding on. Staines tap and go, Maids defend well but are slowly being pushed back into our 22. Penalty Staines, again tap and go and set up a driving maul and eventually Maids concede a try. From the restart Maids get a lineout which their win and play through the hands pushing into Staines 22. Penalty awarded to Maids, lineout on 5mt line, catch and drive, then spin it out to the backs passing the ball through the hands, several plays later caught sealing off, penalty Staines. Staines tap and go, then kick to line, ref blows for half time.

Staines get the second half started, Maids catching the ball and start build an attack up and beyond the half way line nut end the move by knocking on. Staines scrum, pick and go, but drop the ball. This continues for several plays, drop ball, scrums, etc until Maids secure a clean ball from the back of a scrum and make a good break resulting in a kick into Staines 22. Maids push up quickly, Staines pinged for a high tackle, kick and chase, Staines return kick and Cameron catches and runs it back to the half way line, but end up giving away a lineout. Staines win the lineout and kick but the ball goes straight out, Maids lineout back in Staines half. For some reason line out changed by the ref to Staines, kick to clear their half, Cameron catches and runs with support from the backs and the forwards back at Staines, pushing the ball through the hands resulting in the first try of the second half near the posts by Callum, conversion by Jamie. Staines kick deep from the restart, but it goes straight out, Maids opt for the lineout on halfway. Maids win the lineout but then knock on, scrum Staines. This goes on for several plays the ball going back and forth by both teams. Eventually Staines build pressure and attack into Maids 22, but Maids knock on but from the Staines scrum Maids pressure cause the ball to be turned over resulting in Maids breaking away and scoring near the posts, Joshua crossing the line with Jamie converting. From the restart, Maids gather and drive out of their 22, and make a great running break beyond the halfway line but knock on. Staines pick and drive from the scrum but Maids turn the ball over and run in another try from Jimmy, conversion missed. Maids gather and set ruck from the restart, Freddie TD pick and goes and drive down the pitch resulting in a Maids scrum. From the scrum, Maids drop the ball in attack and Stains awarded the scrum. From the scrum Staines attack through the middle but Maids steal the ball and break away with support, great pop and drive. Both teams suffer from a period of loose plays until Maids attack from a lineout and Will manages to dive over the try line to score, conversion missed. From the restart Maids gather and set up a ruck and drive, but are driven into touch. Maids steal the ball from the Staines throw and pass the ball through the hands back up to the half way line but make a forward pass. Staines end up kicking from their scrum and the ball bounces into touch. Ref blows for full time.
