A glorious day and win against Bicester
Maidenhead U16 19 v Bicester 5
Sunday 17th February 2019
2018/19 U16s season
A repeat, friendly game at home against the same big, physical and clearly well drilled Bicester team, on a sunny February morning. Maidenhead running out today with a new scrum half.
Maidenhead get the game started and push hard into Bicesters 22, but loose two rucks in a row while going forward and therefore have to defend and work harder to get the ball back, which is exactly what we did to create and the first try of the game in the corner. Will Houghton with Alfie Mifsud converting. From the restart Maids attack back at Bicester who defended well causing Maids to knock ball on, first scrum to Bicester. Bicester build on the pressure and progress into our 22 but knock on just short of the try line. 5mt scrum Maids, which clear out to just beyond the 22. From the Bicester line out, they play the ball through their backs and kick throw, Maids turn and chase but Bicester just get the edge and touch the ball down first for their first try. Maids attack the restart and are awarded a scrum. We than attach through the centre but are penalised by the ref for the use of the forearm/elbow. Penalty Bicester, who kicked for the line out. Maids attack the line out and push through, playing the ball out to bring the backs into play who attack Bicesters try line. Bicester manage to steel the ball and clear out to the 22 but Maids knock on. Bicester attack from their scrum and kick long but unfortunately too long, straight out, scrum Maids. Maids attack from the scrum but are eventually dragged into touch for a Bicester line out. Several plays, scrums and line outs later both teams playing hard whistle is blown for half time.

Bicester got the second half on the way. Maids and Bicester both playing great rugby between the 22s. Maids get awarded a penalty and push hard into Bicesters 22 and drive towards the try line. Bicester defend well and several plays later Maids still camped in Bicesters half. Maids win a scrum, pick and go and drive into Bicesters 22, but Bicester manage to steal the ball and clear their lines. Several plays later Maids awarded a penalty, line out, catch and drive, pulled down by Bicester. Penalty Maids. Another line out, ball of the top, front peel and drive to the try line, Maids' second try and Will's second, conversion missed. From the restart Maids catch and drive. Ball kicked long and chased but Maids penalised for a high tackle. From the Bicester line out Maids steel the ball and play it back into Bicesters 22 and win a line out. Maids keep up the pressure, playing all the rugby in Bisceters half and mostly within their 22. Eventually, Maids get the break they needed and send the ball thought he hands to create an overlap and score in the corner for our third try, Jeremy De Silva, with Alfie making the conversion. After the restart and several more plays the final whistle was blown.
Maidenhead 12 Bicester 0
This was a very hard physical game which was played and controlled well by Maids. This performance helps to cement all the hard work done over the last few months. Well done, great game, well played lads.
