A soaking Win, Chesham away game
Chesham 0 v Maidenhead U16 48
Sunday 14th October 2018
2018/19 U16s season
A friendly game away against Chesham on a very wet and grey morning. To ensure a 15-a-side game we lent Chesham four players.
Morgan and Fergal agreed to prop, while Freddie Forward went winger and Millan took up the full back position.
Even though we had players on the oppositions side, we started strong. We managed to control our shape and support play really well considering the conditions. Before long we had scored our first try, Corey going over in the far corner. From the restart we retained the ball and took the game back to Chesham, resulting in our 2nd try, Cameron running into the attacking line at speed from an angled run and scoring near the posts, conversion by Jamie.
Weather condition were getting worse and making notes were became harder to write on wet paper. We continued to play some good flowing rugby, with support play and maintaining good shape throughout. Further score came from Jimmy, Blake and Callum with Jamie managing to convert one of the tries. We were struggling with the same problem from previous games, being off side. Unfortunately, Jimmy finished the first half on the bench after getting a yellow card for trying to question the ref's decision. The team had to reshuffle the backs for the last 5 minutes, moving Corey to centre and Cameron covering the winger space.
Score at the end of the first half.
Maidenhead 29 Chesham 0
At half time we made changes, bring the lads that kindly helped Chesham and changed them for different lads. The following boys played for Chesham in the second half were Freddie D-Tipton and Blake as prop cover, James Lyne on the wing and Andrey covering the full back spot.
The second half continued in the pouring rain, therefore keeping notes was now almost impossible. We started the second half still with fourteen players for the first 5 minutes. We continued playing good supportive rugby and maintain are off side lines better, which resulted in some great team tries. Tries were scored by Ben, converted by Jamie, and two tries scored by Callum, Jamie converting one of them. Chesham rallied near the end of the game and put us under real pressure for a good period of time but our defensive line held strong till the final whistle.
