2018/19 U16s season

13/ 01/19

3rd league game of the season away against Windsor on a dry grey cold January morning, 12o/c kick off. A game of two halves.

Maidenhead kick off and both teams have lots of play around the middle of the pitch with no clear advantage to either team. Eventually Maids are awarded a penalty which we push up to Windsor 5mt line. From the line out Windsor knock on and Maids get the scrum. Maids build pressure and stay within Windsor 22 for at least 5 minutes but Windsor defend well and start to break out. Windsor try to put pays together and start to run out but Maids push up hard forcing Windsor to kick to clear. Maids catch and run it back. This continues for a while but most of the pay is within Windsors half, but they start to push into Maids 22. Maids winger, Harry, makes a good break down the wing from a loose ball and Maids are back in Windsor territory. Maids pressure shows when awarded a penalty that Jamie kicks for the first score of the game.

From the re-start the game continues as before with both teams struggling to get a advantage. Eventually Maids manage to get a nice break and start building an attack. Jamie manages to spin out of a tackle and breaks through the centre and scores under the posts and then makes the conversion. Half time.

1st half score, Windsor 0 Maidenhead 10

Maidenhead get the second half underway playing into the wind. Windsor break into Maids 22 from the re-start but Maids manage to push back to half way. From a split ball, Windsor hack through, Maids cover well and are awarded a penalty for holding a player down. We kick for touch but miss and Windsor catch and start playing down the line but the ball is knocked on by Maids in defensive. From the Windsor scrum they manage to break through several tackle and score their first try, but miss the conversion. From the re-start Windsor catch and run at us, again breaking through several tackles but are stop short of our try line. Windsor are awarded a penalty 5mts short of the try line and spin the ball wide and again break our defensive line to score their 2nd try. Again, missed the conversion. Maidenhead seem to have forgotten how to tackle. a try to run and spill the ball. From the re-start Maids get the ball and push into Windsors half and get scrum on the half way line. Maids try to kick deep but miss kick and the ball is turned over. Windsor break through a tackle, run half the pitch, chased hard by Harry, but unfortunately, unable to catch the Windsor lad who scores under the posts. Windsor conversion charged down by Joshua. Maids get the game going again and start to put more pressure on and push towards Windsor try line and are camped within their 22 for a good 5 minutes, but Windsor keep clearing their lines. Maids continue to counter but struggle to retain the ball. Windsor have a player yellow carded for continued infringing. With time running out, Windsor scrum, Maids manage to steal the ball and push towards the try line. We get some good ball and spin it wide, manage to cross the line but drop it as we dive for the line. Windsor scrum and clear their line. Windsor retain ball and start running out but are tackled to ground. Game is moved over to the next pitch due to an injury. The game continued for a few minutes but nothing really changes.
