Maidenhead U9s Festival

Sunday 9th October 2016

Maidenhead's rugby festival is the second of the season and Braywick was resplendent in autumn sunshine when all 16 teams of U9s turned up on Sunday to contest 40 matches of rugby.

Four U9 teams from Maidenhead Rugby Club were in attendance, Hurricanes 1 and 2 and Spitfires 1 and 2. Hurricanes competed valiantly under the captaincy of Tom Dargan and Sam King with the boys ending up with a very respectable five wins and three draws under their belts.

Joe Wooldridge, William Hodgson and Guy Forward were Hurricanes' top try scorers but often against some very good teams from Windsor, Henley and Tring the defence played a major part in securing results through furious tackling and by forcing many turnover balls.

Spitfires A and Spitfires B were captained by Luca Iavagnilio and Harry Turner and for many of the squad were playing not just their first ever game involving contact but also their first every competitive game of rugby. They enjoyed their challenge against some fierce opposition and kept tackling and pushing forward to score tries right to the end. Sam Baines came in as top scorer for Spitfires 1 with some aggressive running. Spitfires 2 showed great effort across the team with newcomer Charles Parry making a notable contribution with his good attacking play. Both teams ended their day with hard-fought draws against tough Tring and Marlow teams.
