U9s at Windsor Development Festival
Sunday 4th December 2016
On 4th December 2016 we had two U9 teams from Maidenhead competing in a tournament at Windsor. Spitfires 1 were: Sam Baines, Michael Dyte, Hunter Forbes Harper, Logan Nasili, Daniel Rossiter, Jon Sanchez, Robbie Standen, Oscar Tisshaw and Ross van Eeden. Spitfires 2 were: Flynn Coulson, Benjamin Duxbury, Finlay Hayward, Sonny Kellett Morris, Mohamed Moursy, Charles Parry, Mark Stylo, James Warner and Chris Williams. Four other clubs were represented with one team each from Beaconsfield, Bracknell, Rosslyn Park and the hosts, Windsor. A cold morning delayed the first game as we waited for the pitched to defrost a bit. Thankfully it was a beautiful sunny day and despite the cold, the boys had a great day.
Spitfires 1 were clearly in a competitive mood and demonstrated their commitment from the start.
A couple of the squad members provided some outstanding try saving tackling and we also saw some great tries being scored. As a team they worked hard to support each other with everyone playing their part at different times in the 5 matches. This teamwork resulted in them winning all their matches and in providing some excellent entertainment for the spectators.
Spitfires 2 won 3 of their 5 games with wins against Beaconsfield, Bracknell and Windsor, a draw against Rosslyn Park and narrowly lost to Spitfires 1 in a tightly fought inter club match. Good defence skills and some great tackling were demonstrated.
Overall both teams demonstrated signs of better co-ordinated defence work, good teamwork and improved communication skills.
