Mohawks play at Twickenham

Friday 16th May 2014

Last Friday, the Maidenhead RFC Mohawks competed in the inaugural O2 Touch Base Tournament at Twickenham Stadium.

The Mohawks were excited to have the opportunity to have a look around the home of England Rugby, including getting changed in the official team changing rooms (including getting in the team baths for photos!!), experience running out of the tunnel and playing on the hallowed turf of Twickers.

The Mohawks started their pool games strongly with the team driving well, creating holes in the opposition's defence and scoring some nice tries, which the players will be dining out on for years to come.

The Mohawks sailed through the quarter finals and made it to the semi final of the Cup.

The semi-final was against local rivals, the Thames Valley Vikings based in Reading, and so it was a proper Berkshire derby game, which was hotly contested by both teams with end to end scoring. Unfortunately for the Mohawks, the Vikings ran in 2 more tries than them and so won the game.

The Vikings went on to win the Tournament and so the Mohawks can take some comfort in being knocked out by the eventual winners.

Top try scorers for the day were Mohawks coach, Lucas Lee, and MRFC winger, Tom Simpson.

A great day was had by all with many memories to treasure for years to come. Next year, we will go one better and win that cup!

If you would like to get involved in playing touch down at the club, join the Mohawks at their Thursday evening training sessions, which are open to all, from 7-8.30pm down at the club.
