Mohawks win first round of Berks Summer Mixed Touch series

Saturday 14th June 2014

Four teams competed in the first round of the inaugural Berkshire Summer Touch Series at Berkshire County Sports Club in Reading: Maidenhead RFC Mohawks, Thames Valley Vikings (based at BCS), Thatcham RFC and Hungerford RFC.

Each team played one another in a series of round robin pool games before competing for the Cup in knock-out games.

The Mohawks were strong in the pool games winning comfortably against Thatcham and Hungerford but had a tighter game against the Vikings.

Following the pool rounds, the Mohawks drew Thatcham in the Cup Final, who had been improving throughout the tournament; their defence was much more organised and their driving play had picked up pace and they gave the Mohawks a scare by scoring early on in the game. The Mohawks kept their composure and managed to hit back three times with some excellent phase play and attackers scooping through off-side defenders to bring the score to 3-1 by the final whistle.

A great time was had by all and the teams are looking forward to Round 2 (of 4 rounds) to be hosted by the Mohawks at Maidenhead RFC on Sat 28 June from 1pm to 5pm.

Entries are still open to RFU affiliated rugby clubs to enter mixed teams (minimum 2 females).

We also hope to have a junior (U16s) exhibition game at 12.30pm.
